Mortgage loan of $200,000 over 30 years:
A good score might get you around 5%, monthly payment: $1074
An "OK" score, perhaps 6%, monthly payment: $1199
A bad score, perhaps: 7.5%, monthly payment: $1398
(and that's if you can get approved at all)
The example above has a difference between good and bad credit of roughly $325 a month. Over the course of the 30 year term, you would pay an additional: $117,000 with bad credit.
Though this is just an example, you can clearly see how much bad credit can cost you. 2.5% can make a huge difference over the term of a loan. Improving your score not only can get you approved, it can save you a great deal of money.
